A survey recently released by Statistics South Africa, revealed that 683 221 households with children aged five years or younger reported experiencing malnutrition in 2021. In an effort to fight the scourge of world hunger, Legacy Hotels and Resorts is on a mission to provide vulnerable children with nutritional food products through its feeding scheme Legacy Pride, a registered NPC.
Charlene Gibbon, purchasing manager at Legacy Hotels & Resorts, explains: “We have over twenty properties across the continent, and involvement and upliftment are a big part of our ethos. Children represent our greatest asset, and we believe that it requires a collective effort to tackle the complex issue of childhood hunger”.
Since 2020, more than 700 000 meals have been delivered to communities neighbouring Legacy Hotels and Resorts. Building on this success, Legacy Pride is gearing up for an even more robust push this year to surpass the one million meal mark.
Legacy Pride recently announced that it has entered into an ongoing partnership with Future Life®. Both organisations share the same passion of leaving a legacy for the future and recognise the importance of investing in the health and wellbeing of our greatest resource – our children. Timeshare owners can now make a donation of their choice or purchase Future Life’s nutritional Smart Food™ products from meal bins placed in the reception area of participating Legacy properties.
“This inclusive approach gives our owners and guests a wonderful and convenient opportunity to be part of the solution,” notes Charlene.
Legacy staff are also actively involved in the campaign by delivering food parcels to the various beneficiaries.
Legacy Pride soft toys can also be purchased on Takealot or at the participating properties. The funds raised through these sales are invested back into the local communities through the purchase and distribution of Smart Food™ products.
