Member Spotlight: Meet the GM at La Côte d’Azur

Among the first timeshare developments in 1986, La Côte d’Azur – a First Group Resort – continues to shine as a multi-award winning beach resort and sought-after holiday destination. At the helm of La Côte d’Azur since 1997 is General Manager Petra Mayer. The humble and always-focused Petra has over the past 26 years established solid relationships with her staff, timeshare owners and within First Group Management. Under her accomplished management, La Côte d’Azur has been the recipient of numerous awards and accolades.

Petra shares the background to this success story.

Q: How did you get into the timeshare industry?

I started out in June 1993 with Stocks & Stocks as a Bookkeeper at Kruger Park Lodge. But shortly thereafter, the operations side of the business caught my attention and that’s where my passion for the hospitality industry began. In April 1997, I was promoted to General Manager at La Côte d’Azur.

Q: What do you like most about your work?

Being able to contribute in every possible way towards the expectations of our owners and guests.  And then seeing their appreciation for the lasting memories created each time they visit their home-away-from-home, is the biggest reward.

Q: In your opinion, what is the ‘special ingredient’ that makes this resort so successful and loved by timeshare owners?

There are several. Our prime beachfront location with uninterrupted sea views offers one of the most therapeutic ways to de-stress and relax. The apartments are spacious with large balconies, most of which are ocean facing. But the ingredient I take special pride in is the exceptional hospitality our guests receive from all our staff.

Q: La Côte d’Azur has been the recipient of numerous industry awards. Tell us more about these proud moments.

In 1999, we went from an RCI Standard Resort rating to a Gold Crown status. In 2010, we were awarded Gold Crown Resort of the Year for the first time and went on to receive the same award seven times thereafter. A big highlight was receiving RCI’s newly created Diamond Award in 2013, which is the highest achievement in the Gold Crown category and rarely attained. 2017 was another big year for us when we earned a Double Diamond status and a second Top General Manager of the Year award. Winning these awards is a result of the contribution by every manager and staff and their commitment to keeping owners and guests happy during their stay.

Q: What are some of the notable improvements made to the resort since the original build in 1986?

The power crisis and extended periods of loadshedding poses significant operational challenges, so becoming proudly self-sufficient has been key to delivering on the promise of exceptional holidays.

Q: Where will we find you at the end of a busy day?

Absorbing the calming effect of the ocean while sitting on my balcony with a good book.
